Your sales motivation is dependent on turning off and cutting out the blather, the “foolish talk” that seems to be in endless supply these days. Turn off the blather of negative comments flowing from the TV, radio, internet and newspaper. Then, cut out the negative comments that have already built up in your mind.

No matter how much you may want to stay up on the news, it is hard to do so without letting all that negativity impact your sales motivation. So much of the news is either plain negative in nature or runs counter to your political, societal or personal beliefs. The result? A sense of stress in your immediate thought process. The simplest way to deal with this is to minimize the news you read or hear until after you have completed your sales day. Replace it with either music or commentary that is strictly upbeat. Also, if you do feel it is necessary to watch or listen to news, make sure you switch to something positive before turning it off. In other words, end on a positive note, not a negative one.

The flow of negativity into your mind is just as serious a risk to sales performance as someone who thinks they can drive and text at the same time. Your sales performance and your sales motivation are in your hands. How much of what you are listening to is just “foolish” negative blather?
