I talk a lot about the role of leadership in sales and how the way others see you determines how they treat what you say. Leadership is about making a positive impact and influencing them in a manner that encourages them to achieve a greater outcome.
The more we look at leadership, the more we can see how leadership and sales are inclusive. Many times when I end a speech, I do share a few final thoughts on leadership. Here’s a 54-second video where I run through multiple key points surrounding leadership:
We have to stop and ask ourselves if we’re being deliberate in how we impact others. Do we work each day to help those around us achieve a greater outcome? I like to think I’ve made a very positive impact on my children and have helped them achieve a great outcome. If I feel this way about my children, then I also should be thinking the same way about others with whom I spend time.
Leadership is not something we do occasionally or only in certain situations. No, leadership is part of our DNA. If that’s the case, then I for one need to be exhibiting at a higher level in every conversation.

Mark, I only went into sales becasue I thought I could make a difference. And I left when my ability to do that was compromised by changes to the industry and my company.
I was always motivated by some of Zig’s quotes and becasue I was once told (not sure if it’s true) that sales is derived from the Norwegian word “selje” = “to serve”
