You Have More Business in Your Pipeline Than You Think
It’s the fourth quarter. The clock is ticking.
You’re staring at your number, wondering if you’ll make it—or not.
Here’s the good news: you’ve got far more opportunity than you realize. I went through this same exercise myself, and I was shocked by how much business was hiding in plain sight. Let’s walk through 11 ways to uncover it and close strong.
1. Start by Defining the Gap
Look at your annual target and subtract what’s already a lock—deals that are in motion, repeat business, renewals, anything that’s practically done.
Now, what’s left? That’s your gap.
Chances are, it’s smaller than you thought.
2. Work the Bottom Third of Your Pipeline
Focus on the opportunities closest to closing. They may just need a little nudge or one more conversation.
You don’t need to chase new leads when you’ve got warm ones sitting right there, waiting to be finished.
3. Close Smaller Deals Faster
Big deals are great, but in the fourth quarter, small deals can save your number.
Smaller opportunities often close faster, and a few quick wins can add up to a strong finish.
4. Go Back to Current Customers
You’ve already built trust with them—so build more business.
Pick up the phone and say, “Hey, it’s been great working with you this year. What else have you got going on? Who else might benefit from what we do?”
Referrals and repeat business are your fastest path to results.
5. Reconnect with Referral Partners
Your referral partners are in the same boat as you—they want to close the year strong, too.
Spend a day calling them, brainstorming, and trading introductions. You’ll both win.
6. Reach Out to Old Customers
They already know you. You already know them. That’s half the battle.
Some of them have projects sitting on the shelf that you could help move forward. Call them up. Reopen that relationship.
7. Follow Up with Customers Who Said No
A “no” from earlier this year doesn’t mean “no” forever.
Maybe their budget’s changed. Maybe their other vendor dropped the ball.
Go back to those who stayed with the status quo or chose another solution. You’ll be surprised how many are ready to re-engage.
8. Revive Silent Prospects
We’ve all got them—those prospects who just went quiet.
Reach out with new value. Share an insight, an idea, a fresh perspective.
Silence often means they were interested, just not ready. Your job is to reignite intent.
9. Bring in Subject Matter Experts
Sometimes the best way to move a deal forward is to bring in extra expertise.
Maybe there’s someone in your company—or your network—who can help strengthen your case. Team up.
If you’re a solopreneur, partner with someone complementary (a financial planner with a tax advisor, for example). You’ll create new value and new opportunities.
10. Target New Buyers Showing Intent
Within your ideal customer profile (ICP), look for signs of change.
Announcements, leadership moves, new investments—these are triggers of intent.
Spend an hour researching your top prospects. You’ll often spot new reasons to reach out.
11. Leverage Your Network
Your network is one of your greatest assets in Q4.
Don’t just hammer the phones—engage your network strategically.
Reach out, share insights, and stay top of mind. These are the people who can help you uncover hidden deals faster than any cold call.
Don’t Panic About the Gap
Once you go through these steps, you’ll see your number shrink fast.
Start with what’s certain. Add in what’s probable. Then chase the possibilities.
And remember—the gold is in your existing customers and referral partners. That’s where real opportunity lives.
You’re not closing deals; you’re opening relationships.
Bonus: Find Companies That Need to Spend
Every year, some organizations have “use it or lose it” budgets.
If they don’t spend by year-end, they lose the money.
Look for those divisions or industries. Reach out. You might find they’re eager to make a purchase before the clock runs out.
It’s Time to Finish Strong
Sales isn’t just a profession—it’s a lifestyle.
We help others see and achieve what they didn’t think was possible.
You’ve got more opportunity than you realize. Now go find it.
Great selling.
