It’s Sales Motivation Friday! Each Friday I’m trying to give you a specific insight that will boost your sales motivation and propel you into the weekend on a positive note. Here goes:
We become like those with whom we associate. I can’t emphasize this enough, and yet for too many salespeople, these simple words seem to go in one ear and out the other. And sadly, this is then reflected in their sales motivation.
A key part of my business is to continually network with people who I believe have more talent and intellect than me. The reason I do it is simple — I strongly believe we become like those with whom we spend time.
How much time do you spend each week with people who you feel have more talent and intellect than you? Minimally, I believe we need to spend several hours a week. Now, this does not always have to be face-to-face. It can also happen through the videos you watch and the books you read by people you respect. Just be sure you don’t limit yourself to using only these channels. You also need some of that face-to-face interaction with people you respect. This allows you to exchange ideas, share opinions and develop your critical thinking skills.
A few weeks back, I attended a meeting of several hundred people where the average level of education was minimally a master’s degree. I entered the meeting knowing only two people, and I purposely chose not to sit by them. Instead, I chose to interact with other people with the sole purpose being to learn, absorb and sharpen my ability to process and think. What a difference it made in my outlook to gain these new perspectives.
Take a look at your schedule and see where you can create time to meet with people you respect. You may be surprised at the positive impact it has on your sales motivation and your success.
